Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris born October 20 1964) is an American lawyer and politician who is the 49th and current vice president of the United States. Harris is the first female vice-president and highest-ranking female official in U.S. History, as being the first African American and second Asian American vice president. As a member of the Democratic Party, she previously served as the attorney general for California between 2011 and 2017 and was the state's attorney general from 2011 to 2017 and as a United States senator representing California from 2017 until 2021. Harris was born and raised in Oakland, California. Following her first job as an Alameda County District Attorney, Harris was enlisted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Then she was appointed the City Attorney of San Francisco. The office was named San Francisco district attorney in 2003. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010, and then re-elected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sánchez in the 2016 Senate elections to become the 2nd African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to be senator in the United States Senate. She was a senator and was a vocal advocate for reforms to healthcare and federal cannabis de-scheduling. She also advocated for the possibility of citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented as well as the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons and progressive tax reform. She is best known for her direct questions to Trump administration officials in Senate hearings.
